Every manufacturer of chemicals is required to provide these documents to its clients. This is usually done in the form of PDF files, which are provided to the customer via various communication channels.
Now, with the transmission the manufacturer has fulfilled his duty. The customer is now obliged to generate operating instructions, carry out risk assessments or maintain the hazardous substance register on the basis of the SDS data. This is necessary in order to comply with legal guidelines.
For example, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) in the U.S. requires companies to make all information from SDSs available to stakeholders. There are, of course, numerous equivalent requirements in the EU’s REACH regulation.
