About 3 years ago we started with the topic of data extraction from safety data sheets (SDS). We initially started with a handful of data from sections 1, 2 and 3. What was initially developed as a by-product of our SonarBox for individual purposes has now become one of our main projects.

During development, we discovered that high-quality data extraction from SDSs is not as easy as we thought. Although the SDSs follow a standard, there are myriad visual and technical challenges to overcome. We have made very good progress, but we also know that quite a few surprises still await us in terms of SDSs.

Starting in 2020, we will deliver SdbHub to enterprises as a standalone cloud solution. The goal is to digitally read in the safety data sheets that are available in PDF format and provide the data for sections 1 to 16 in a structured manner.

We currently offer an interface that outputs structured data in JSON format. We are also planning to provide output in Excel and XML in the near future. In doing so, we would like to rely on the existing SDSComXML, so that we also build a bridge here to the activities already carried out in the area of digitalization of the supply chain.

We are excited about the further development and the requirements of the market. We are very confident that we will make life easier for many users and companies.
